What we now know about the past. (Stone Age) Our visit to Avebury

Today at Avebury we learnt that the Stone Age people where way smarter then we thought originally. We looked at a period of time called the Neolithic age which was 6000 years ago.

In other words there more intelligent then we thought they where.                            

   They had necklaces and gems and traded and travelled.  

Music Lesson 9 - Classical Music

Classical music is the music that an orchestra plays. 

Did you know that Here comes the bride is a classical piece?

Famous musicians who wrote famous classical music are called composers. They include Mozart and Beethoven. They lived a long time ago.

I'm not a big fan but I like the Christmas classical music because it's amazing when it's about Christmas. I also like the more exiting music.

My favourite one is by Greig and its called In the Hall of the Mountain King. 

I like it because it's exciting and you can imagine people running away from the dangers in the Trolls Cavern.

Music lesson 8 - Percussion

Percussion are instruments that do have strong and are not brass without having to blow on them. They are usually played by hand. 

They are things like the triangle and xylophone as well as all types of drums.

This is a drum set. They are  the loudest percussion instruments. 

Music lesson 7 The Woodwind Section

The woodwind section has instruments that are played with a reed they have to be blown on. This is a saxophone.

The instrument doesn't have to be made from wood.It is the reed that makes it a woodwind instrument.  

Music 6 - Brass Section

The brass section has 5 instruments in it such as the euphonium, the trombone, the trumpet and the french horn. All these instruments are buzzed not blown on.

Music 5 String Section

The string section is made out of 4 instruments the cello, the violin, the viola and the double bass.

Music 4 - Orchestras

An Orchestra is a band of instruments.

That are softer then rock and pop. It has 4 sections brass, wood wind, string, percussion.

I was in the brass and the brass instruments are buzzed to make sound.

English lesson adverbs 5

Adverbs are adding to the verb. Like running = slowly running. Normally they end in LY.

Jumping - quickly jumping

Driving - slowly driving

Stopping - enigeticly stopping

England - Geography Report

England is know for fish and chips, the Big Ben and it's long history.

England is located above Europe.

England is 130,395 km² big. It go into Australia 58 times. Can you believe this?

53.5 million people live there. WOW. Thats over twice as many people in England.

In England they speak English. 95% of people speak English as thier first language.  Other languages spoken as a first language here is Welsh 1%, Polish .5%, Punjabi .5%,, Hindi .5%, French 23%. Spanish 8%, German 9%.

In England they have a monarch government. This means that there is a Queen, but she is just a head of state and has no power over the rules in the country.

In England they use pounds as their money. England is in the the EU but keeps its own money.

Englands national animal is a lion.

The other national animal is a unicorn.

This is the official emblem.

Some of the famous people from England are King Henry the 8th. He is famous because he chopped off the heads of his wives because the church wouldn't let him divorce them. He became the head of the church in England let let people divorce their wives. He also took all the churches money away from them.

Queen Victoria is famous because she ruled for over 63 years. She was very cranky because she was very sad because her husband Albert die when he was young. Lots of her kids died too.

In England they have bangers and mash, beef cobbler and bubble and squeak.

Bangers are sausages. Bubble and squeek is left over vegetables that are fried up in the morning.

If you go to England you need to see the Tower of London, Stonehenge, Windsor Castle and lego land.

There are lost of old houses and mansions and castles to see in England. The gardens are amazing.

Music lesson 3

Todays music lesson looks at different and wierd musical instruments.
We went to Siegfried's Mechanisches Musikkabinett in Rudeshiem.
Most of the instruments here come from the Black Forest in Germany. 

This is a band in one. This needs electrical power. It has 19 instruments in it.

This is a organ it gets wound on the side and makes very good music. They usually had is monkey to dance and they would get money.

This is a music chair when you wind it up and sit on it... It makes music. I think this is very cool and a very smart idea. 

This is a smokers music box. When others wound up and the button is pushed the six sides come out and they hold things and it play music. I think that they can put things in it other then smokes.

This is a organ grinder and I got to play it. 
You wind a handle around and around to make the organ play.

Spain Geography Report

Spain is best known for its bull fighting, a tomato festival where they throw tomatoes at each other and its good food.

Bull fighting is cruel to the bulls. They all die and are killed horribly. Its just for entertainment and its disgusting.

This looks like a sticky situation. This is the tomato festival. Did yo know that in one town they had to stop people coming in when they had 20 000 people throwing tomatoes. 

They grow a special type of tomato for this. They aren't very  nice to eat. I don't like tomatoes anyway.

Spain is on the left side of Portugal and under France and is in Europe.

Spain is 504,645 km² big. It can fit into Australia 16 times.

The population of Spain is 46.25 million .

Other than Spanish they speak Arabic, Romanian, English and Germany to list a few.

In Spain they have a Monarchy government.

The Spanish flag has one stripes of red and yellow.

In Spain they use euros as there currency.

Some of the famous food in Spain are pinchous and paella.

Pinchous are little dishes. We had this alot for lunch on the camino. You buy them in bars.

Paella comes in a big wok.

Music lesson 2 - instruments

There are lots of types of instruments. 

I used to play an instrument called the Euphonium its a brass instrument.  the trumbone and the trumpet are also brass instrument. The brass instruments are all buzzed and they have a mouth piece called the reed.

My Industrial Age job.

At the Museum of Childhood, they had a lot about being a child many years ago. Before the 1900s, children worked. During the Industrial Age from the 1760s, children worked in terrible placed like factories and mines. They were very dangerous and many kids got killed.

If I was a boy about  230 years ago I would choose to be a paper delivery boy. They had to deliver the news papers to the local houses before going to school. 

They also had to think about getting to school on time or else they'd be in trouble.

Paper boys didn't get paid much. Al the money kids earnt went to the parents to pay for food and house. Everyone worked back then. Everyone was poor.

My favourite old fashion toy at Sudbury Halls Museum of Childhood.

My favourite old fashion toy was a wind up toy from the 1800s.

When you winded it up the wheel spun.

The way it works is when you wind it pulls a spring and when you release it it spins the gears witch made the wheel spin. I found this cool because you could make it go by its self.

Children's exhibition at the National Art Gallery in London

Today we went to the national art gallery in London. The exhibition that we went to was focused on Georges Suerat's painting the bathers.this is a photo of the painting.

This is me  next to the painting so you can see how big it is. 

 The bathers was painted by taping the brush on the paper.

The exhibition had work from  age groups up to 13 year olds and as low as 6 year olds. There where lots of cool designs and they all looked like they jumped out of the painting and into another.

First we got to see some clay figurines from his painting. This is the best one in my opinion

Did you know that in England they have something called a bathing house. The batheing house is on two wheels and goes down to the water so you can get in arfter getting changed. Here is the best modal that I saw.

A nother way to do art is to not lift your pen and it's called a line drawing. I think that it would be hard to do this type of drawing.

On the whole, I thought all the kids who got their work displayed at the art gallery were very lucky and very good.  It was great to see how much art work can be done just by looking at a famous painting.

War horse review

Today we went to see War horse in the theater in London.

It was awesome that they could have real sized marrionette and puppett horses. It was amazing when the actors got on a sat on them and really ride them around.
Now I need to watch the movie and read the book. The book is a childrens book so its ok for me to read.  I can't give a call on how much it sticks to the movie or book but mum said it was pretty true.

One of the things that was good is that it had hardly any singing and more story.  There was lots of action and gun fights. I would rate it a 8.7/10. It's a go see play and I loved it.

Georgians

Today at Warwick Castle we went to a little actively pack about Georgians . They were named this because of King George. He as a very fat and lazy king who ate alot. There is a rhyme about him - Georgie Porgie.

Did you know that the used rat skin to rub on the eye brows to make them fluffy? yuck. They also at a lot of cake so they have bad teeth. Alot of them had no teeth so got dead peoples teeth put in their mouth. They also used mercury for all the lice, so their hair fell out. The Georgians wore wigs to hide this.

The history of the English long bow.

Today we went to Warwick Castle. We focused on the Bowman and his demonstrations and learnt alof about the history of it.

Did you know that the English long bow was invented by the Welsh? The bowman told us a story - I am not sure if its all true though.

One day Daffyd and tom where walking in the forest and daffyd fell over a branch the fell of a yew tree. Tom laughter at daffyd and daffyd got angry. Daffyd tryed to snap int on his leng but it didn't so Tom walked off a head. So daffyd got even Mader and got the stick and a bit of string and made a giant bow . He then got a sharp stick and shoot it a head it went flying and daffyd shouted '' did you see that ''. Tom shouted back ''AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH'' '' yes i did it's in my back''.

 So the English hired welsh bow men to fight for them. But they got sick of it and got peasants to do it for them. The king forced all peasants to practice bow from teh the age of 8. The king needed alot of archers for his battles.

The long bow men have a weird walk because they had a big arm and a little on. This is because  one shoulder stronger then the other because of the bow.

Sutton hoo (digging up the ruins )

Today we went to Sutton hoo and learned how they dug up the ruins and remains of the king Readwald and his treasures.

The people who dig things up are called Archaeologist. Mum wanted to be an archeologist when she was a little girl and grew up.  The man leader of the dig group is called Basil Brown.  Basil Brown and his team of specialists got told that there was something under the mounds by Miss Edith Pretty. Edith Pretty was the owner of the land at the time and gave them permission to dig there.

They found what they think was king Readwalds grave. We did a little course on how to be an archeologist. It was very helpful to know all the facts because I know that I'll need to have that experience later on. I don't think I'd like to dig up old dead people though.

Cooking with Math

We are cooking a chocolate cake for dessert tonight.

Yum! It tastes good. It was gluten free because Lilly can't have gluten

I practiced fractions and addition while we cooked.  There is alot of maths in cooking.
