Pantomimes - Mother Goose at Salisbury

Did you know that Pantos are performed near Christmas?

The characters which are normally in a Panto are a dame (who is a man) a hero and girlfriend and a grumpy man. There is always a fairy and a devil.

A Panto is different to normal theatre because is has a lot of participation with the audience and they yell at things like "Watch out" and "look behind you". It's acted as a normal play but the girls are usually men who have sh*t make up and terrible clothes. It's so obvious that they're men but the play goes on This was fun and is very English.

Today we went to a pantomime called Mother Goose and its based on a story called Mother Goose. It is a fairy tale about a fairy who has to do a good good deed every year. She helps Mother Goose who is poor and sends her a goose that lays golden eggs. But an evil demoness tricks Mother Goose into losing the goose and al her friends. Mother Goose realises beauty is not as important as family and friends. Its ends with a wedding.

My favourite part was when the two men poured glue down each others pants. Its was very funny.

Check some out of you live or are going to England.  I'd rate this one play 8/10.

Music Lesson 10 The Beatles

Today we visited The Beatles Story Experience in Liverpool.

The Beatles are John, Paul, Ringo and George

The Beatles started as a rock band and evolved into the Beatle style they were until they broke up in 1970.

They stared with a stupid hairstyle that was like a bowl cut and it looked like they were wearing a mop. They had jackets with no collars. By the time they broke up, they had long hair and beards and wore flowers and colourful hippie shirts.

Liverpool was an important place for music too and lots of bands played in the Cavern there. We went to a recreation of the Cavern.

The Beatles are important to music because they made pop come round and a lot more such as teenagers. The Beatles started big band crazes off. They were the first band to have a concert in a stadium.

Some famous prices include I want to hold your hand. 

I'm not a big fan of there older jazzier ones but I'm a fan of the newer ones like love me do, hard days night and yellow submerine. 

We went to the two museums and I liked the second one the most. It had a more interactive feel to it. It also had a 4D show it was very good.  It had alot of teh music in it.

In this photo I'm learning how to play the drums with Ringo. It's not a thing I found I'm good at :)

 I think I'll stick to the euphonem. 

These are the Beatles top 10 songs. My favourite is not there - I can't believe it. I like love me do and hard days night.

Math lesson 10 long multiplication

Long multiplication but is multiplication but with longer numbers. 

To solve double digit numbers you have to put the numbers underneath each other first.

It is a multi step task.

Then you have to start at the units and do your multiplication or the whole number above it.

Then you move to the tens and multiply all the above number.

You keep going until you have multiplied all your numbers and then you have to add them up. 

Its hard to learn but once you have got it it is easier.

Christmas Orchestra Concert

Today we went the the Christmas Orchestra in Edinburgh.

 it was amazing and it had a lot of Christmas songs and a ballet called the Nutcracker in a nutshell.( they cut it shorter than it normally was)

 The two presenters where very funny and made me laugh. They dressed in tutus for the sugar plum fairy song.

We went to tge concert because we have been studying Orchestras in music and looking at all the sections and instruments.Though I did notice they didn't have a euphonem in the orchestra. We also had great sets for each part of the concert.

It was very good. I enjoyed it a lot and would rate it 9/10 it was amazing. Then at the end they had there own song called “the 12 tunes of Christmas” it was super fun. 

Math lesson 9 areas square rectangle triangle

Areas are the opposite to perimeters. Areas are whats inside the space.

This is also another good strategy for a architect.

To work out an area of a square you have to do side squared - thats how long the side is and times it by itself.

 For a rectangle you have to times the width by the hight so its w Times h.

Battle of Bannockburn (my experience)

Today we went to the Battle of Bannockburn and got to go into the 3D experience.
It was amazing. We also got to see the battle on a board that had the map marked out and it had the mountains surfaces and  rises. Then after that we went head to head with the English team in a battle game that we got to play as the Scottish commanders.

The battle game was a computer generated game which was controlled by a game master who told us what our moves looked like. He was very good at describing things.  It was sort of like playing warhammer.

Our job was to beat the English so they can't get to the Castle of Stirling so we could win freedom of the Scots. It was super intense and we won in 1 day instead of wining in 2 days as that's what happens in real life history.

Then we got to go and stand where Robert the Bruce set up camp. We also stood in front of the statute of Robert the Bruce.

Edinburgh Castle

Today we went to Edinburgh castle and we looked at the canons, cells, the view, the stone of destiny and the Crown Jewels of Scotland. 

It was very cool looking out on the city, especially when it was all misty. 

It was very dark rainy and cold. But that didn't stop us from looking in the cannons and around the place like in the cells.  The cells were recreations of when prisoners were there in 1788

Wallace Monument

Today we went to the Wallace monument.  It celebrates William Wallace as  a national hero. He was not a hero when he was alive as most thought he was a rebel at best. In the 1800s Scottish people began to feel nationalistic so this monument was built.

We climbed the 264 steps and saw the sword and many others things that had to do with the battle of Falkirk and William Wallaces other battles.

It's was very high I thought it was amazing if look very well shaped by the architect. It was very fogy from the top of the monument but well worth it.

Battle of bannockburn (what happened)

The battle of Bannockburn was in 1314 in Sterling in Scotland. It went for two days.

The battle was between Edward ll and Robert the Bruce. Robert the Bruce had 10,000 soldiers and Edward ll had 20,000.

The scots where out numbered by the English. But the scots still won because of the training and the leaderships that they had.

This is an important historical event for Scotland because It was the first time they had won a battle with England and that it lead to the freedom of Scotland as an independent country.  That ended sadly in the 1700s.

A perimeter is the outside of a shape.

Perimeter are used a lot to find out how big a certain shape is actually in architecture or in farming or in buying a house block.

To find the perimeter of a square you have to use a formula. The formula is Ax4
the S means side.

To find the perimeter of a triangle you need to do Ax3.

To find the perimeter of a rectangle you need to do Lx2 and Bx2   L is length and B is breadth. Another way is (L+B) x 2

At school I love shapes because they had so much that you could learn and it was very interesting.

Shapes are lines in a certain order.

Shapes are useful to know so you can make things and place them together like a puzzle.

A square has 4 sides. The sides are exactly the same as each other. Each angle has to be a right angle.

A triangle has three sides. Its angles are acute and obtuse.

A rectangle  has four sides. Each angle has to be right angles. two sides are longer than the other two sides.

Geography - The USA

The USA is best known for Hollywood,  Disney, the Grand Canyon and New York City.

The USA is under Canada and on top of Mexico and is in the continuent of the Americas.

The size is 9,857,306 km². It is 2 million km2 bigger than Australia - so its pretty close to the same. 

316.1 million people live there. That is 

They speak English primarily but also speak Spanish, Italian Polish and Chinese. 

In America they have a Presidential system government.

This is there flag it has fifty stars for all fifty states

They use US dollars as their money.

There national animal is a bald eagle.

Famous people from America are Abraham Lincoln and Benjamin Franklin.

Abraham Lincoln was a president and he abolished slavery. Benjamin Franklin was he guy who flew the kite in the storm to see if lightning had electicity.

In America they love there pizza and party food like hot dogs, fried anything and subways.

Most people live in big tall apartments. They also live in very big houses.

They have alot of celebrations including Halloween, New Years, Christmas and Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving celebrates when the pilgrims were starving and the indians came and gave them food. Americans eat turkey on Thanksgiving.

If you were a tourist, you would go to The Statue of Liberty in New York, Hollywood, Disneyland in Florida and California, the Grand Cannon, Mount Rushmore where there is a huge carvings into the mountain to remember  to  U.S. presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.

decimals on a number line are very simple .

They can be useful for when your doing things that have numbers like 1.23 and 1.34  -so you can see which is bigger.

We see decimals in measurements like kilometres and centimetres as well as  in money.  A decimal is a fraction of a whole.  .5 is half.  0.1 is 1/10th

In France they have the same shapes roofs as England. It is pointy so the snow doesn't stay on the roof as much. Alot of people live in villages and the houses are very old and small.

The most famous food you eat in France is croissants, frogs legs, snails and crepes.

Famous people from French history are Edith Piaf, Joan of Arc, King Louis V1X and Napoleon.

Napoleon was a self appointed Emperor and Military Leader. He was the most celebrated leader in military because he changed the way the military was trained and operated.

Some important events which happened in France are  Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake in 1431, the French revolution in 1788, the battle of Waterloo in 1815, the first and second world wars were fought alot in France.

As a tourist, you should go to Paris first to see the Eiffel Tower, the Lourve, the Arc de Triumph, St Tropiz and the Palace of Versailles.

Fractions on a number line are easy when you get them down pat and know them.

They are useful when you can't do the fractions in your head or on paper. 

You can see what is equivalent - so its easy to see.  We use fractions on a number line to see what is bigger and smaller than the others.
